Summary of publication
South Asia is one of the World's least economically integrated regions, hindering growth and stability. Australia's total official development assistance to Regional South Asia ($26.2 million in 2015-16), seeks to improve inter-country cooperation on food, water and energy security and trade and infrastructure connectivity. Australia's basin-wide river management approaches have been applied to the Himalayan river basins; water-efficient farming practices enhanced in Bangladesh, India and Nepal, and support given to develop Nepal's hydropower sector. The first activities under the South Asia Regional Trade Facilitation Program (SARTFP) began, focusing on women's economic empowerment.
