Samoa

Samoa was the first former territory in the Pacific to become independent, in 1962. Consisting of  four inhabited islands and a number of smaller islands and outcrops , Samoa lies to the north-east of Fiji and west of the international dateline, which runs between Samoa and American Samoa. Its Polynesian traditions remain a central force in Samoan life.
